SaaS development from MVP to multi-tenant platform

SaaS development is building software that customers sign up for and pay for on a subscription. I help founders and companies turn a specific workflow into a SaaS product: first an MVP that proves people will use and pay for it, then the accounts, billing, multi-tenant data and analytics a growing product needs.

Who this is for

  • Founders with a validated problem who need a first version to put in front of paying customers
  • Businesses turning an internal tool or service into a product they can sell to others
  • Teams whose MVP was built quickly and now needs a structure that can scale
  • Agencies and consultants who want to productise a repeatable service

What's included

MVP scoping

Identify the one workflow the product must do well, the smallest feature set that delivers it, and what to leave for later.

Accounts and teams

Sign-up, onboarding, organisations or workspaces, invitations and roles.

Subscription billing

Plans, trials, upgrades and invoices with Stripe, including webhooks so access always matches payment status.

Multi-tenant data

Each customer's data separated and access-checked on the server, designed in from the start rather than added later.

Product dashboard

The core screens your customers use every day, plus an internal admin view for support and operations.

Usage analytics

Events that show activation, retention and feature use, so roadmap decisions rest on evidence.

Prove the workflow before scaling the platform

An MVP should test a specific promise: this product saves this customer this effort. Features that do not serve that test can wait. At the same time, a few decisions are expensive to change later, notably how tenants' data is separated, how billing state controls access and how users and organisations relate. I get those right early and keep everything else simple.

If the product includes AI features, I plan for their running costs, rate limits and failure cases, and for human review where mistakes matter, so the unit economics still work when usage grows.

How the project runs

  1. Product briefTarget customer, core problem, pricing idea and how success will be measured in the first months.
  2. MVP designUser flows and screens for onboarding and the core workflow, plus the data model and tenancy approach.
  3. Build in milestonesWorking increments on a staging link: accounts, core workflow, billing, then admin and analytics.
  4. Beta launchRelease to early customers, watch where they get stuck and fix friction quickly.
  5. ScalePerformance work, new plans and features, integrations and team permissions as demand grows.

Technology choices

  • Next.js and TypeScriptMarketing pages that rank in search and an application that feels fast, in one codebase.
  • PostgreSQL and PrismaReliable relational data with tenant separation and migrations as the product evolves.
  • StripeSubscriptions, trials, invoices and customer billing portals.
  • Auth and emailSecure sign-in, verification and transactional email such as invitations, receipts and alerts.

What affects cost and timeline

  • How many features the MVP genuinely needs to test the business
  • Billing complexity: plans, usage-based pricing, trials and coupons
  • Integrations with other platforms your customers already use
  • AI or data-processing features and their running costs
  • Design readiness and the level of polish needed for your market

Every estimate starts from your requirements. Request a quote with your users, must-have features, timeline and budget range, and I will reply with questions and a suggested first phase.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a SaaS MVP take to build?

It depends on the scope, integrations and design readiness. A focused MVP that tests one workflow is much faster than a full platform. Send your brief and target launch date and I will suggest what fits in that window.

What is multi-tenancy and do I need it?

Multi-tenancy means many customers share the same application while their data stays separated. Almost every B2B SaaS needs it. Designing it in from the start is far cheaper than retrofitting it.

Can you add subscriptions to an existing app?

Yes. Stripe billing can be added to an existing product, with access rules tied to subscription status and webhooks keeping both systems in sync.

Will I own the code and customer data?

Yes. Repositories, hosting, Stripe and database accounts belong to you.

Can you help after launch?

Yes. Ongoing work typically covers fixes, performance, new features based on customer feedback, and scaling infrastructure as usage grows.

Have a project in mind?
