Web applications

Web application development, frontend to backend

A web application is software people use in the browser to get something done: book, apply, buy, manage or collaborate. I build full-stack web applications with React and Next.js on the frontend and Node.js and PostgreSQL on the backend, including accounts, payments, integrations and deployment, so you work with one developer who understands the whole system.

Typical web application projects

  • Customer portals where clients log in to see orders, documents, bookings or account status
  • Marketplaces and matchmaking platforms connecting two sides, such as buyers and sellers or hosts and guests
  • Booking and application flows with forms, verification, payments and confirmations
  • Internal tools that replace email threads and spreadsheets for a specific team
  • Rebuilding an existing application that has become slow, hard to change or insecure

What's included

Frontend development

Responsive React interfaces with accessible forms, clear navigation and loading states, built from your designs or designed together with you.

Backend development

Node.js APIs, business rules, background jobs and email or messaging notifications, with validation on every input.

Database design

A PostgreSQL schema designed for your data and queries, with migrations so the structure can evolve safely.

Authentication and permissions

Email, Google or other sign-in options, password reset, roles and access rules enforced on the server.

Payments and integrations

Stripe and other payment providers, maps, calendars, file storage and third-party APIs.

Deployment

Hosting on platforms such as Vercel or a cloud provider, environment configuration, monitoring and backups.

Full-stack means fewer gaps

Many web application problems appear at the boundary between frontend and backend: a form that accepts data the server rejects, a page that loads slowly because it fetches too much, or a permission that is hidden in the interface but not enforced on the server. Building both sides together avoids those gaps.

I choose rendering per page. Public pages that need search traffic use server rendering or static generation; signed-in areas focus on fast interactions and reliable data. The aim is the simplest architecture that meets the product's real requirements.

How the project runs

  1. ScopeUsers, key journeys and must-have features for the first release, plus anything that could change the architecture, such as payments, real-time updates or offline use.
  2. PrototypeClickable screens or a thin working slice to confirm the main flow before the full build.
  3. Build and reviewFeatures delivered to a staging environment in short cycles, with you testing as we go.
  4. HardeningValidation, error handling, performance, accessibility and security checks before launch.
  5. Launch and iterateProduction deployment, monitoring, and improvements based on how people use the application.

Technology choices

  • React and Next.jsComponent-based interfaces with server rendering where search visibility or speed matters.
  • TypeScriptType-checked code across frontend and backend, which reduces bugs as the application grows.
  • Node.js and ExpressAPIs, integrations and background processing in the same language as the frontend.
  • PostgreSQL, MongoDB or FirebaseChosen per project: relational data usually suits PostgreSQL; some real-time or document-shaped data suits the others.

What affects cost and timeline

  • The number of user roles and core journeys in the first release
  • Whether designs exist or need to be created
  • Payments, real-time features, file handling and third-party integrations
  • Data migration from an existing system
  • Testing, accessibility and security requirements

Every estimate starts from your requirements. Request a quote with your users, must-have features, timeline and budget range, and I will reply with questions and a suggested first phase.

Frequently asked questions

Do you do frontend only or backend only?

Both are possible. I can join an existing team for frontend or backend work, but many clients choose full-stack delivery so one person is responsible for the whole flow.

Can you take over an existing web application?

Yes. I start with a code review covering structure, dependencies, security and performance, then recommend whether to improve the existing codebase or rebuild specific parts.

Will the application work on phones?

Yes. Interfaces are responsive by default. If you need app-store distribution or device features, a React Native app can share logic and APIs with the web application.

How do you handle security?

Server-side validation, access checks on every request, secure session handling, secrets kept out of the code and dependency updates. Sensitive requirements such as payments or personal data are planned from the start.

What do you need to give an estimate?

A description of your users, the main things they need to do, any existing designs or systems, and your target timeline and budget range.

Have a project in mind?

Tell me what you want to build, who will use it and when you need it. I will reply with questions and a practical next step.
