OpenAI API integration for real business workflows
The OpenAI API gives software access to language models that can read, summarise, classify and generate text. I build these models into specific steps of a product or workflow, such as drafting replies, extracting fields from documents or answering questions from your own content, with limits on cost and clear points where a person reviews the output.

It depends on the provider, the product and your plan, and these policies change. I check the current data-usage and retention terms for the account you will use and, where needed, avoid sending sensitive fields at all.
How much will the API cost to run?
It depends on the model, how much text each request processes and how often it runs. I estimate usage from real sample data during the build and set limits and alerts so costs stay within a budget you choose.
Can it answer questions from our own documents?
Yes, usually with retrieval: your documents are indexed and the relevant passages are sent with each question, so answers are grounded in your content and can cite their sources.
Do we have to use OpenAI specifically?
